As we celebrate Data Privacy Week, we are reminded of the importance of keeping privacy top of mind.
Data Privacy Week encourages us to learn more about protecting our privacy online, especially in a vast digital world. For individuals and organizations alike, privacy and security often go hand in hand. With ever increasing data footprints, strong awareness of online privacy is important, but handling data appropriately and respecting privacy are key.
Microsoft recognizes the importance and challenge of managing personal data and launched Microsoft Priva to support organizations in their privacy journey in 2021.
Today, Microsoft Priva offers two solutions:
Priva Privacy Risk Management (PRM) helps organizations manage privacy risks related to data hoarding, data overexposure and data transfers by identifying critical privacy risks and automating risk mitigation. Priva PRM also helps empower employees to make better data-handling decisions with increased awareness—fostering a proactive privacy culture.
Priva Subject Rights Requests (SRR) helps organizations manage and respond to requests at scale and with confidence by automating data discovery, conflict detection, providing in-place review and redaction, and streamlining secure collaboration.
On #dataprivacyweek, we are thrilled to share new functionality for Microsoft Priva—arriving to further help organizations build a privacy resilient workplace.
What’s New?
We are excited to share the public preview of Microsoft Priva working hand in hand with Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager, which offers data protection and privacy assessment templates that correspond to compliance regulations and industry standards around the world. With this update, admins can take specific actions within Microsoft Priva and see those actions reflected in their organization’s overall compliance score automatically. Compliance Manager can detect whether admins have created data transfer, data minimization or data overexposure policies within Priva Privacy Risk Management, as well as enabling and enforcing data retention limits for data in Priva Subject Rights Requests—allowing for collaboration that yields better together productivity.

Risk alerts serve a great purpose in helping privacy admins take action to remediate privacy risks. Now rolling into public preview is added customizability for setting alerts in Priva Privacy Risk Management. This can be especially useful as organizations might have different risk appetites or profiles when it comes to managing privacy data. With this update, admins can set up and customize alerts for high-risk violations—for instance, admins can set up an alert, like detecting and flagging incidents of large volumes of personal data or high impact regulatory personal data, and receive alerts based on their preferences. This functionality can help ensure that alerts are more relevant and thus easier to act upon.

Finally, we recently launched the highly anticipated public preview of Right to be forgotten for Priva Subject Rights Requests. This marks a significant update, as with this new feature, admins can now select delete as a request type, or get started with the delete template and get purpose-built flows that help surface conflicts and streamline deletion. This feature will also enable admins to have the flexibility to select different approvers for any given request and, once the workflow is complete, access the reports tab where they can view their summary report and review results.
