Special thanks to @Amit-Lal, Microsoft for chalking and testing these scripts for diagnosing SAP on Azure with Oracle DB performance efficiency.

We would like to announce tools to help diagnose SAP on Azure Oracle performance efficiency. The scripts can be found in this repository along with what types of issues that they can help to diagnose and guidance on how to use them. The repository contains scripts to address several areas that impact performance efficiency, including:

  • General Issues (DB/CPU time, segment statistics, etc.)
  • I/O Issues
  • Enqueue Issues
  • SQL Statement Issues
  • Long Running Background Job Issues

These scripts are designed to assist SAP Basis and DBA teams in identifying and resolving performance issues quickly and effectively. The scripts cover critical aspects of the system, including analyzing the DB/CPU time and configuration patch history, to identify general issues. Perhaps general issues can lie in the analyzing critical parts of the system such as the DB/CPU time and configuration patch history. There are some general scripts to get started in analyzing some of these areas including I/O issues that can contribute to a degradation in performance efficiency due to a high number of I/O operations or higher time for each I/O operation and should be ruled out by examining read/write operations. Furthermore, it is possible that enqueue issues may arise from resource contention within the SAP system. These issues can be effectively diagnosed by conducting a thorough analysis of locking and root block situations. SQL statement issues can be resolved by tuning the scripts that may be causing performance degradation. Additionally, long running background jobs should also be evaluated for tuning opportunities.

We believe that these scripts provides a valuable resource for running SAP on Azure, and helping to uncover some of the most common Oracle performance efficiency issues in the early stages of performance analysis.
