Oldest Build supported by Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

Hi everyone,

I have looked into the minimum OS supported by Microsoft defender, however the build versions of the OS are not indicated in the documentation. Can anyone confirm what the oldest build version of Windows 10 is supported by Microsoft Defender?

Thank you all!

  • Hi jrmlopez,

I haven't found a relevant documentation with a straight answer either, but by looking into various associated functionalities related to MDE I would suggest the minimum required version would be Version 1709 (RS 3) with KB4537816 because that's the minimum build required for Live Response functionality to operate (See documentation here).

Other documentation with regards to minimum requirements can be found here (Defender Offline scan) and here mentioning older builds though.

I suppose the stock answer is that all supported versions will work with MDE, if you are trying with something unsupported, best of luck.
