MCAS requirements for Log Collector
Hi all,
this is my first question in the Microsoft Community. I have been reviewing the requisites for MCAS log collector and I wanted to understand why does the machine hosting the log collector needs at least 250 GB disk, as this appliance sends every 40KB to MCAS and stores up to 20 backup files.
Thanks in advance,
Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,
The requirement for at least 250 GB of disk space for the MCAS log collector is due to several factors:
Backup Logs, While individual log files may be small, the log collector stores multiple backups. As you mentioned, it can store up to 20 backups, and over time, these can accumulate, especially if the logs are generated frequently.
Log Rotation, In case of higher log generation (for example, if the system is collecting logs from multiple sources or during periods of high traffic), the size of the log files can increase substantially. The disk space needs to accommodate potential spikes in log volume.
Temporary Data, The log collector may also temporarily store log data that hasn’t been sent to MCAS yet due to network conditions or processing delays. This can require additional disk space.
System Overhead, The system hosting the log collector itself will use disk space for system files, logging software, and other dependencies that also contribute to the overall storage needs.
These reasons contribute to the need for a larger disk space to ensure smooth operation over time without running into storage constraints.
