Red Hat Summit is a premier open-source technology event organized by Red Hat geared towards ITDMs and professionals. Back in Denver, Colorado, Red Hat Summit brings together customers, partners, industry thought leaders, and community contributors each year to learn, network, and experience the full potential of open source. It will be nothing short of a melting pot of innovation and collaboration. As the event approaches, let’s delve into the significant announcements that are set to reshape the landscape of enterprise technology.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Landing Zone

One of the pivotal announcements will be the Availability of the RHEL Landing Zone, which is slated to be ready soon. This development marks a significant milestone in facilitating seamless deployment and management of Red Hat infrastructure on Microsoft Azure. Azure landing zone is an environment that follows key design principles across design areas. These design principles accommodate all application portfolios and enable application migration, modernization, and innovation at scale. An Azure landing zone uses subscriptions to isolate and scale application resources and platform resources and we are excited to bring this to Red Hat workloads.

Availability of RHEL 8.10/9.4/9.4 CVM on Azure Marketplace

Further enhancing accessibility and convenience, Microsoft will provide the latest technology by introducing the availability of RHEL versions 8.10 and 9.4, along with the Containerized Virtual Machine (CVM) variant. Scheduled for release in May, the offering underscores Microsoft’s dedication to offering cutting-edge solutions to its customers. This integration provides users with a centralized platform to discover, deploy, and manage Red Hat solutions within the Azure ecosystem.

AHB in Business Case and Assessment phase in Azure Migrate

In a bid to facilitate seamless migration to the cloud, Microsoft unveiled the preview of surfacing AHB cost savings in business case and assessment while migrating on-premises RHEL workloads to Azure. Azure Hybrid Benefit (AHB) for Linux integration with Azure Migrate offers a better idea of the TCO, promising enhanced efficiency and scalability in the cloud.

ARO Advancements

Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO) has witnessed significant advancements, including notable partnerships and integrations. A new testimonial from Ortec Finance, showcasing their ARO experience emphasizes the platform's capabilities and real-world impact. In a move to empower organizations with AI capabilities, we will be announcing the support for OpenShift AI on ARO. This integration opens new avenues for deploying and managing AI workloads on a scalable and resilient platform, driving innovation and efficiency.

SQL on Linux Innovations

Microsoft’s SQL Server solutions on Linux received substantial updates and enhancements, further solidifying its position as a leading database management platform. The release of SQL Server 2022, fully supported on RHEL 9 marked a significant milestone in database technology. SQL Server 2022 can be deployed on RHEL 9 as a confined application using the all new mssql-server-selinux package.

Microsoft introduced a new version of the Microsoft.sql role, packed with features aimed at enhancing automation and security. From configuring High Availability (HA) solutions to supporting the latest SQL Server deployments on RHEL 9, this update empowers users with greater flexibility and control over their database environments. New TPC-H benchmark has been published for SQL Server 2022 on RHEL 9.3.

To streamline backup processes, Microsoft introduced the T-SQL snapshot feature for SQL Server 2022 on RHEL 9. Leveraging Red Hat’s Stratis feature, this innovation promises to expedite backup operations, ensuring data integrity and resilience in the face of evolving business demands. Ensuring data security remains a top priority, Microsoft announced the General Availability of Azure Key Vault integration for SQL Server 2022 on Linux. This integration enables users to securely store encryption keys outside of SQL Server, bolstering data protection and compliance measures.

In summary, Microsoft’s presence at Red Hat Summit 2024 underscores its commitment to collaboration, innovation, and empowering enterprises with cutting-edge solutions. From empowering users with seamless infrastructure deployment to revolutionizing database management, Microsoft continues to drive technological advancements that propel businesses towards success in the digital era.  Whether you’re attending the sessions, visiting the booth, or exploring the latest offerings, Microsoft’s engagement promises to be both informative and impactful.
