Windows 11 will be available starting October 5, 2021. Currently, Windows 11 is not a supported platform for the Azure Sphere SDK, although in early tests the latest SDK does install and operate on Windows 11. The Azure Sphere team is working on integrating Windows 11 into our test framework, which is a prerequisite for declaring Windows 11 a supported OS. We will publish an announcement on this blog when Windows 11 is supported.

Right now, we do not recommend that Azure Sphere customers use Windows 11 for production infrastructure (e.g. devops or manufacturing operations). We welcome testing with the Azure Sphere SDK on Windows 11 in non-production settings and would like customer feedback about any issues encountered.

  • Important: When testing the Azure Sphere SDK on Windows 11, use Azure Sphere SDK 21.07 Update 2 for Windows or any later release. The 21.07 Update 2 SDK fixes an installer bug that prevents installation and uninstallation of the SDK on Windows 11.
