Extending Copilot: Building with Copilot Studio
Event details
Copilot Studio is an end-to-end conversational AI platform that empowers you to create and customize copilots using natural language or a graphical interface. Learn about Copilot Studio and how you can use it to build plugins to third-party data.
This session is part of the Copilot for Microsoft 365 Tech Accelerator. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |

I can't find the SAP actions like "Read SAP Table" shown in the demo:
How do I get these actions?
Thank you!

- davidkelly_coherentCopper ContributorMy organization has Copilot for M365, but I do not see the Conversational plugins option on the left pane in Copilot Studio. I also do not see the Copilot Studio option when I click on the plugins icon below the prompt text box in Teams. Is the feature not yet available?
- JackRowbotham

Hey David, try logging at www.copilotstudio.microsoft.com to start creating. The discovery of Copilot Studio within the plugin feature of Teams is not live just yet.

I have given Copilot Studio 4 websites to consider, plus I have uploaded some PDF docs containing information about Copilot Benefits based early trials with users.
When I want to create a generative answer and I Edit the Data Sources, I see Public Websites, SharePoint, Azure Open AI Services, and Custom Data, but I do not see a way to select the documents I uploaded to use one or more of them as a Data Source. How can I use them?

Despite trying several topic descriptions, I have not been able to invoke a conversational plugin. Any prompt is met with the default Unknown Intent topic "I’m sorry, I’m not sure how to help with that. Can you try rephrasing?" Is there any reason for this? Constraint/limitation/pre-requisite?

- brkcanadaBrass ContributorI love the idea of extending Copilot for M365 into LOB applications/data. However, how can this be done where it respects the security/permission model within the application? For example, I as a user of an HR system have certain access that's been defined in the application. How can Copilot connections be designed to trim access based on the application's configured security/permissions?

Great question! The plugins today only support authentication of the API but not end-user authentication just now. Once that feature is available, you will be able to have M365 Copilot users have authentication to the plugins and LOB systems specifically to their access levels.
- jvocuenca0885Occasional ReaderCan copilot merge PowerPoint documents without using 3rd party connectors in Power Automate?
- GabeHoFormer EmployeeHi John, great question. I don't think it can do that but something I can surface back to the team.
- Shadan_QureshiCopper ContributorHi, I have a copilot studio license. I also have Copilot for Microsoft 365. But, I dont see an option to create conversation plugins. Is this feature yet to be rolled out?
- JackRowbotham
Microsoft
Hey Shadan, the plugin development in Copilot Studio is in preview today and will be more readily available over the next month. You should see conversational plugins when you open at the Copilot layer within Copilot Studio, on the left navigation pane. Let me know if that helps- CatarinaFrancoCopper ContributorWhat about the connectors? At the moment there are very few connectors available in the conversational plugin. Do we need to use Power automate and create a new flow?
- luistapia_007Copper ContributorAh great! This is the one I was looking for. Is there an option to use Copilot Studio for testing in a non production environment? Currently the only option is $200 /mo.
- sarahbowyerCopper ContributorSorry to jump in this chat, but would this mean for a customer facing experience custom CoPilot you would need to pay the $200/ mo. fee for Standalone Copilot?
- JackRowbotham
Microsoft
That's correct. As soon as you want to go beyond extending Copilot for M365 with conversational plugins, you would look to purchase the $200 per tenant per month for 25k messages. Popular scenarios for when people look to buy standalone is when you want Gen AI experiences outside of channels available from Copilot for M365, you want to build employee and/or customer experiences or even if you want a dedicated gen ai experience where you have more control over the orchestration of the LLM.
- JackRowbotham
Microsoft
Hey Luis, Copilot Studio is available within two licenses. In Copilot for M365, just for extensibility via plugins and then available standalone for custom copilots which is $200 per mo. You can absolutely use environments to host Copilots through the steps of Dev, Test, and Prod. This allows more control over what will be available to that specific set of developers within the environment. Does that help?
- JackDuMezIron ContributorPlugins seem to be a compliance and security challenges. Is there guidance for how Studio would treat Compliance/Purview settings, for example, if linked to a CRM?

Great question Jack. Please refer to this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-copilot-studio/security-and-governance - JackRowbotham
Microsoft
Hey Jack, good question! The first thing to know is that any plugin made within Copilot Studio will not be made instantly available within Copilot chat without IT approval in the Microsoft Admin Center. The second part is that IT has control over who can access Copilot Studio to be able to build in the first place. Regarding plugins accessing LOB systems, the current scope does not support end-user authenticated plugins YET so developers can decide make a plugin on a Service account. This isnt as popular and IT can control this with environments and data loss prevention policies of what data connectors can be used.
