Using Apple Pencil will shut down RD client when connecting to the remote computer. This
situation happens after updating the app today.

Same probleem here, pencile don’t werk in rd sessies
My Apple pencil is not working on remote desktop starting last week, even through it works on my other ipad apps. Any help would be appreciated
Same here. My Apple Pencil stopped working with the latest RD release on iPad.
Started having the issue today. Apple pencil connected and works with everything until you get to the desktop that you're remoting into. Tried resetting iPad but didn't help.
Thank you for the feedback. Sorry for the inconvenience. The dev team is investigating this issue and I will let you know if we need any more information to help triage the issue.
Hi @andreakbuss, @Springbox, @Williamw845 @Bobo94 @KeelySpicer
We are unable to repro the pencil crash on our side. The crash report is not really useful in this case as its not pointing to anything useful. There are two ways you can help us further triage the issue:
1) Send a video (can be captured from a phone etc.) reproducing the crash to rdios@microsoft.com. Please add any helpful description and a link to this TC post where you originally reported the bug.
2) Or you can send a crash file from your endpoint by going Settings -> Troubleshooting -> Set Core and UI Log levels to Verbose -> Choose Output folder -> Start. Then make the app crash. A log file will be created in the output folder, then share it to rdios@microsoft.com. Please add any helpful description and a link to this TC post where you originally reported the bug.
Thanks
Thanks for your comment @js351 - However I am not experiencing a crash when using my Apple Pencil while interacting with the Microsoft Remote App, it’s just it doesn’t work at all when being in my server. I have now to move my cursor and click with my finger instead. Apple Pencil worked perfectly for me with the last iPad version. Really frustrating :).
same as @Springbox. no crash, just doesn’t work at all.
Hi @Springbox,
What generation/model of iPad are you using, what generation of Apple Pencil are you using, and lastly what version of the RD Client are using - you mentioned Apple Pencil worked perfectly for me with the last iPad version were you referring to the last RD Client version?
Apple Pencil: 2nd Generation
iPad Pro 3rd Generation
iPasOS: 16.1
No crash here. The apple pens works with the settings part of the remote client but once I am in the session the pencil no longer works but it does respond to my finger. Have also tried other pencils.
Remote Client v. 10.4.4
iPad Air 4th Generation (But have tested on several other ones and same outcome)
OS: 16.1
Apple Pencil 2nd generation.
I concur. My Apple Pen 2 does NOT work in the RD Client since the app was updated. Using 2020 Apple IPad Pro. The pen works with the button at the top of the screen which changes keyboard etc. but NOT within the remote session.
To follow up on my earlier post, I, like the others, am not experiencing a crash either. The Apple Pen works on everything EXCEPT the RD. I am using a 2nd Gen Apple Pencil on a 5th Gen iPad Pro. I am using Microsoft Remote Destkop v10.4.4. There is definitely a glitch somewhere and we hope you can find it quickly
We have the same problem on different iPads (iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPad) and with Pen and Pen 2.
We had RD Client 10.4.3 installed and the pencil worked fine. Then I updated to version 10.4.4 and instantly after this update the pencil stopped working in the rd client app (only in this app).
I could reproduce this problem on other iPads after updating them from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4.
Apple pencil support was mentioned as a new higlight in the update description. I am confused because the pencil already worked in older version - but not in actual version 10.4.4.
Hi @js351, Will you be able to finally fix the issue?
I join to conversation - after upgrading to 10.4.4, apple pencil stopped working only with this application in remote desktop mode.
iPad Pro 5gen
ipadOs 16.1
apple pencil 2 gen
HI MIcrosoft, can you please let us know when this issue is going to be fixed. Sounds like Remote Desktop has somehow disabled the Apple Pencil function WITHIN the Remote Desktop.
Any resolution to this yet? Here at my company we have some users who would really like me to find a resolution to this. With that last update, Apple Pencil's do not work in RD sessions anymore. Thanks.
Similar situation with iPad users in our company using the Zagg Pro Stylus on iPad (9th generation) with IOS 16.1 and also on iPad Air (3rd generation) on IOS 15.7. For the iPad Air the RDP sessions worked fine until the last RDP update to 10.4.4 and then it was noted on 10/12/2022 that it dropped the RDP connection whenever the pen touched any shortcut or menu item on the RDP connected desktop. For one user with a iPad (9th generation), this only started happening yesterday on 11/10/2022. The stylus on all of our iPads still works well with all other apps.
@js351 can you please provide a status update on this issue on your end?
@js351 can we get an update? Is this something that MS is tackling?
Hello,
Apologies for the inconvenience this issue is causing, the development team is asking to set up a call with a customer to help them reproduce this issue on our end so we can create a fix asap.
Please let us know if you are willing to do this by sending an email to rdios@microsoft.com.
Thanks
Same here. I would love to get this resolved. My Apple Pencil stopped working only in the RD client app, but it’s working everywhere else.
I'm having several problems with the Microsoft RDP iOS app on the iPad (iPad Air 4th gen with Apple Pencil 2nd gen):
As of right now, the iOS Microsoft RDP app is completely unusable for me, which is particularly annoying as this these devices are being used in a business setting.
@js351 any updates? I emailed to be be contacted regarding the issue with the pencil and never heard back. Where are we in the process of fixing this issue.
It would be nice to know if you are going to fix this prior to the end of the year because I need to know if I should purchase a different machine so I can effectively do my work
Hi @KeelySpicer I just replied in mail, we are still triaging this issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.
