Since I installed the latest version of Sonoma I am not able to print anything anymore when using from my remote software.
Since I installed the latest version of Sonoma I am not able to print anything anymore when using from my remote software.
That's the case with us too.
Same here! Please fix this bug.
Anche a me lo stesso problema appena aggiornato a Sonoma e ha finito di stampare....
I upgraded to Sonoma 14.0 and found that I can no longer print to my local printer from a remote server using Microsoft Remote Desktop. The specifics are that my company runs its accounting software (QuickBooks) on a remote server. It is necessary to print accounting reports and checks from QuickBooks on my local printer. Microsoft Remote Desktop provides for this connection in its connection setting, allowing the remote server to "redirect" print jobs to my local printer. There is some discussion of this Sonoma issue on the attached link.Problem with using Microsoft Remote Desktop redirected printers w/Sonoma 14.0.
Yes, we are experiencing this issue. I'm hoping it get's sorted ASAP.
I'm having this problem too.
Same problem..installed Microsoft Remote Desktop version: 10.9.3 (2158) on macOS 14.0.
Sam issue here an dtried almost everything to my knowledge to fix.
Since I Upgraded to Sonoma 14 I cannot print from Remote Desktop. Needed for Church program reports.
Same exact issue. I've been driving my IT department crazy for the past week. We need this bug fixed ASAP.
I went to my program support, Apple support with no fix. Then I went to Microsoft support and waited 25 minuets to speak to their support, and 30 seconds into the call, he hung-up on me.
I have a feeling it's one of those things that enough people will have to complain before they will fix it.
I'm having the same issue with Citrix printing too! Cannot redirect printer Error -41
Great suggestion. Thanks. Hopefully Microsoft resolves the issue soon.
I had this same issue. I work from home and my company uses Microsoft Remote Desktop software. My computer inadvertently updated while I was out of work on vacation.
None the less, I had to revert back to Ventura to be operational again. Once I did that, printing from the software was not an issue at all.
Here is the instructions that I used to revert back to Ventura...just until Apple or Microsoft can figure out a fix for this bug.

Hope that helps!
Thanks for that. I came across another option that might be a good workaround for some until Microsoft can fix this. You can print to a "printer" such as Cute PDF that creates a PDF file of the document you are trying to print. Transfer that PDF file to your mac and print from there. Several ways to transfer the file are to email it to yourself, use copy/paste, or create a folder that the Remote Desktop session will share with your mac. You can place the file into that folder on the Remote Desktop, then open the folder in finder and just print it from there. Hope this helps. Cheers
Hi!
When accessing my workplace's Remote Desktop on macOS Sonoma 14, I am unable to print from the printers setup on my Mac. This previously worked on macOS Ventura 13. I am currently using RDC 10.9.2. I have also tried this with RDC Beta 10.9.3 with the same result.
The Remote Desktop shows me my re-directed printed when I go to print a document, however when I go into Control Panel to check for the printers, they are no longer in Control Panel. I suspect this issue is surrounding macOS Sonoma's shift to the new Printer Center. Are you able to advise if there is a workaround for this issue?
It is correct that the Folder "redirect" in the Microsoft Remote Desktop "connection" is (continues) working normally, which allows for saving documents as pdf or doc (etc.) and then printing them on a local printer. The remaining issue is with accounting systems that print checks. For example, there is no option in QuickBooks to print a check to a pdf, and even if this were possible, reprinting the pdf on check stock would almost certainly not line up with the pre-printed check stock. I am sure there are many other similar issues with remote programs printing pre-printed forms (such as a check). Either Microsoft or Apple needs to fix this printer problem. In the interim, the solutions are: (1) revert to Ventura, (2) find an older MacBook in the closet that has not been updated to Sonoma and load Microsoft Remote Desktop, or (3) Go to Best Buy and buy cheap PC and load Microsoft Remote Desktop. You can never tell when a cheap PC may come in handy.
Same Problem here. I work on my iMac with Microsoft Remote Desktop on al Microsoft Cloud PC. Until I upgraded to Mac OS Sonoma printing works without any Problems.
After the Upgrade to Sonoma printing doesn't work anymore over RDP.
Local printing from Sonoma works still fine without any Problems.
thanks for reporting this issue. we are able to repro this on our lab and are currently investigating.
Same here. Wasted 2 days with msft tech support while my employees are all unable to work (print, checks from Quickbooks) Who do we send the bill to for lost time with tech support and days lost work? please fix this ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same problem here, although we're using Citrix not Remote Desktop. Perhaps the Sonoma update broke printing on all remote login solutions.
Also, here's the Apple thread about the same issue, in case anyone is curious:
macOS Sonoma remove support for postscript which is the format Remote Desktop use to redirect printing. This format is used for backward compatibility to older windows OSes.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213250
probably similar thing is happening with the Citrix app mentioned above. We are looking for a solution
I already tried adding a new printer using Postscript driver only, did not work.
Hi MS,
Can we get an update on this, please? We need this fixed as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Carmine Poliandro
goldadam33, you mentioned "Creating a folder that the Remote Desktop session will share with your Mac. You can place the file into that folder on the Remote Desktop, then open the folder in finder and just print it from there." How do you create a folder within the Remote Desktop that is shared with your Mac? Does anyone know how to do this?
Hello everyone,
We want to inform you that due to recent changes in macOS Sonoma, printer redirection is currently supported only when connecting to Windows 10 and newer versions.
To ensure proper functionality, please make sure you have downloaded the latest beta client from aka.ms/rdmacbeta (version 10.9.4 build 2160).
If you are using macOS Monterey or an older macOS version, printer redirection will still work as it was when connecting to older Windows versions.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work on a more permanent solution for older Windows operating systems.
Thank you for your cooperation.
@gietal Can I ask if this new version should support printer redirection when connecting to Windows Server 2019 and 2022 with RDS functionality?
Any news on this? Still doesnt work with Citrix.
What thread are you referring to? The only link i can see from microsoft is for the rdp beta client, which doesnt really make an impact on Citrix. If i missed something, a link would be much appreciated :)
