Smartcards on the MacOS don't work. When attempting to login initially you have to have an account to connect via RDP to the machine first before you can use the smart card. That isn't the way Windows RDP clients work and the Mac should be the same.
Looks like this idea didn't get enough votes over the past months to be considered. We are closing this idea.
