Keyboard bug in Remote Desktop Mobile for Ipad when using VM on remote machine

I have run into a very specific issue with how the keyboard input is transmitted for my specific setup which is the following:

Remote desktop app on ipad connects to my win10 pc

on my win10 pc, i run a virtual machine in vmware. 

The connection from ipad to pc works fine (i can use the keyboard without issues). Using the vm on the pc itself also works fine. But when i try to use the vm through remote desktop, the keyboard is remapped to garbage values (most keys have no value, 1 is M, 2 is N, 3 is .). 

This issue is not happening when i connect from a laptop to my pc and use the vm, so it must be related to the ipad app (even though the „issue“ is happening somewhere between the pc and the vm)
