We recently announced the public preview of the metadata in Japan. Today we are announcing the public preview in Australia.

Prior to this you could only store the Azure Virtual Desktop metadata in the US, UK, EU and Canada, with Japan in preview.

This now adds Australia East into the locations you can select from when creating a new Host pool.

This enables you to choose to locate your Azure Virtual Desktop objects within the geographical boundary of Australia and know that this data will always remain within that geographical boundary.

We guarantee that the metadata for this host pool object is only stored within the only the Australia geography. We replicate the data to the Azure paired region of Australia Southeast for disaster recovery purposes of the Azure Virtual Desktop service.

More detail regarding the Azure Virtual Desktop data locations is available in this article.

You have always been able to choose any Azure region to place your session hosts including the Australian regions. This now also enables you to store the metadata for those host pools in the same geography.

Testing

In order to test the new Australia East metadata location all that you need to do is create a new Host pool and, in the Location, drop down list on the first “Basics” tab, select Australia East. Then continue to create a host pool as you normally would.

This is a rolling change starting today and could take up to five days to appear globally for all customers.
