Planner and MS Project both are different product with different features, is my understanding correct?

- Yes, Planner and MS Project are different things. Sort of. The Project web app is Project for the Web. These are combined in the New Planner (in public preview). New Planner also brings in tasks from To Do, flagged email messages and tasks from other tools.
