On October 19 at VMWorld Europe, VMware shared their partnership with Microsoft and demonstrated an early prototype of Skype for Business running in Horizon View VDI. This is the next step in the Skype Product and Marketing Group's strategy of supporting key VDI solutions used in the industry.
The use of Skype for Business in a virtual desktop offers several benefits to customers. Virtualization allows for secure collaboration by keeping key digital assets such as confidential company information in the datacenter thus preventing data leakage. Examples of risk include lost mobile hardware and unprotected devices in the public exposed to malicious hackers. It also offers simple management with greater visibility, policy management and control through centralized deployment and application updates. Lastly, it delivers a consistent end-user experience across any device and platform along with lower IT costs through virtualization.
VMware is targeting Q1 CY2017 for tech preview of this new capability.
