Today we are providing an update on bringing Microsoft Kaizala capabilities into Microsoft Teams. In April, we announced plans to bring Kaizala together with Teams, enabling customers to use Teams to connect and coordinate with their extended networks - such as partners, suppliers, customers, and citizens – whether or not they are managed in your Azure Active Directory (AAD) environment.

We will be adding Kaizala Pro capabilities to Teams over the next 12-18 months, ultimately replacing the Microsoft Kaizala service and making Microsoft Teams the primary client in Office 365 and Microsoft 365 for communication with both internal employees and people in your extended networks.

The first set of Kaizala Pro capabilities will be available in Teams by the end of calendar year 2019 and includes Kaizala Actions as built-in apps in Teams, such as checklist, training, and quiz. By the end of calendar year 2020, additional capabilities will be added to Teams, including custom apps, flexible group types, and open directory capabilities for identity and authentication, which enables communications with anyone on Teams, whether or not they are managed in your Azure Active Directory.

Once these new capabilities are part of Teams, Kaizala customers will be able to start transitioning to Teams. Meanwhile, Kaizala will continue as a standalone service, which we will continue to support and update. The free Kaizala app is available through the Android and iOS stores, and Kaizala Pro is available in eligible Office 365 and Microsoft 365 service plans*.

We encourage every Microsoft 365 and Office 365 customer to begin using Microsoft Teams, the hub for teamwork in Microsoft 365. Teams improves workplace collaboration by helping organizations move from an array of disparate apps to a single, secure hub that brings together what teams need, including chat, meetings, and calling, all with native integration to the Office 365 apps. Teams has a simple and powerful experience for mobile users in 46 languages and 181 markets, Firstline worker capabilities such as shift management, guest access, and support for custom workflows and apps with Microsoft Flow and PowerApps. By adding Kaizala capabilities, Teams will become even better.

Download Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Kaizala today from the app stores and get started. Join the Teams and Kaizala Tech Communities to give feedback, vote on feature requests, and engage with an awesome community.

*Eligible SKUs: Office 365 F1, E1, E3, E5, Business Essentials and Business Premium, Office 365 Education A1, A3 and A5 and Microsoft 365 F1, Business, E3, E5 and Microsoft 365 Education A1, A3, A5

Awesome news. thanks for the update.

I always tell people that the Kaizala inbuilt apps distinguish it from other apps of a similar vein.

Having that internal / external distinction and expanding the loop is what it needs.

Great news. Thanks for the update @Heather Gordon !

I wrote a blog post about my thoughts based on this update blog: https://myteamsday.com/2019/06/28/kaizala-integration-update/

Great news!  Kaizala together with Team will be the ultimate app for both office users and first-line users

This move sounds like it will improve the guest experience for people not in the same domain for Teams users. Is this the case? Also, as Groups underpins security does Teams’ security model change in any way?

I hope that Teams will improve the performance in places with low connectivity.

appreciate the news. Was almost thinking of barring users from kaizala, but this gives pause. This is interesting also that there is no mention of S4B . It's teams for collaboration. Would like a clearer picture with these changes of the licensing end game. I.e. right now I have an org that has about 1500 mixed to high level employees using teams and office. However we want to leverage only teams for another 1500 or so, and are not seeing a teams only license. The fact that the teams commercial cloud license is 'free' is tempting, but it only has 1 year. Really need to know some more for the future of licensing.

It makes sense to merge features for Kaizala Pro into Teams because it is always a challenge to explain customers the difference between Teams and Kaizala Pro.
But good to hear, that some kind of federation will work with users outside of the customers AzureAD-Service. So Kaizala for consumers coul dbe a B2C Client for Teams companies? So where is the room for Skype (consumer) in that topology, if Skype Consumer Federation (PIC) is not available.

Frank

Thanks for clarity.

Will Kaizala "Free" continue as a standalone outside of Office 365?

@Tom Arbuthnot, thanks for the question - yes the free Kaizala app will continue to be available whilst the Kaizala capabilities are being made available in Microsoft Teams - see the extract from the blog "The free Kaizala app is available through the Android and iOS stores, and Kaizala Pro is available in eligible Office 365 and Microsoft 365 service plans*."

@Heather Gordonto follow up on some of the thoughts, will this create a Licesne feature to align with these users? I.e. now we would need a full teams user. In the end will the users that only need kaizala level features, get a kaizala level "Teams License" or some other sort of license?

Given the plan to replace Kaizala with Teams, is it fair to say that Kaizala data residency will never come to Canada?  Is it also fair to say that Kaizala functionality adopted by Teams will leverage Team's data residency in Canada?  I ask because my org is subject to legislation that does not allow storing 'personal information' outside of Canada.

Does Kaizala not support group video chat?  I note the specific mention of "1:1" in the last blog update.

What about screensharing?
