I guess that all depends on what is possible.
Your screenshot with a badge a count of notifications would definitely do the job as it'd prompt me that I have something to check.
A full preview would be useful as I could glance at the notification, check if it needs my attention now and act accordingly, however I can also understand that the remote machine might not want to give out that information, maybe because of security policies on that machine not wanting to allow any data exfiltration.
