Hello, first of all, great session! The new vMode looks really promising.
I have a couple of questions and thoughts from an enterprise perspective:
External PostgreSQL Database: Are there any plans to support the integration of an external PostgreSQL database in the future? We use dedicated, hardened instances that are managed by a separate database team who also takes care of backups. An embedded/local DB can sometimes be challenging to integrate into existing compliance and operational structures.
REST API & Automation: Since vMode now natively understands and centrally maintains the global state of the entire environment, are there any plans to expose a REST API for Hyper-V management in large-scale, automated environments?
Terraform Integration: In my opinion, such an API would be the perfect opportunity (and foundation) to provide an official Terraform provider for the on-prem management of these systems. That would be a massive value-add for Infrastructure-as-Code scenarios!
Host Limit: Regarding scalability, is the maximum of 1,000 Hyper-V hosts a hard technical limit, or is it more of a recommendation / best practice for performance reasons?
Thanks in advance for your feedback and keep up the great work! ππ
Hi fkhβ - Thanks for watching.
External PostgreSQL - Thank you for the suggestion. We will keep this in mind as we plan future releases.
REST API & Automation (and Terraform integration) - We are investigating automation functionality for vMode itself. Hyper-V automation remains through PowerShell (among other methods). We believe this will cover all automation use-cases and enable partners or customers to build out additional integrations as their specific needs dictate. Stay tuned for more on this.
Host Limit - This is our tested maximum. There is no technical limitation that we are aware of at this time.
