how long until perpetual is eliminated?
- jweiszMar 26, 2024Copper ContributorIn a world where it is really unsafe to run an old version anyways, I am not sure a subscription-based pricing model is inherently bad. Most on-premise enterprise software is already sold with a subscription at minimum for access to updates. The biggest issue for me is ensuring that it isn't connected to Microsoft's cloud environment and does not require Internet access, and will not suddenly break if an invoice doesn't get handled within a given week.

Hi Jake, WS2025 PayGo will be similar to Azure Stack HCI in that the system will be resilient to brownouts with temporary loss of internet connectivity, but will need to be able to submit the billing data at least once every 30-days.

there are no plans to "eliminate" perpetual licensing. There are many different types of customers with unique needs to license Windows Server, and we appreciate all of them.
