Event details

Microsoft Viva Goals is a goal-setting and OKR management solution that aligns employees to their organization’s strategic priorities and purpose, enabling teams to drive measurable business results. Because Viva Goals is a part of Microsoft Viva, it integrates into the employee experience, empowering people and teams to be their best from anywhere.

An AMA is a live text-based online event similar to a “YamJam” on Yammer or an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with Microsoft product experts who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.

Feel free to post your questions about Microsoft Viva Goals anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.

Default Language is set to en-us for all users. 'Change language' redirects to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/settingsandprivacy/language but Viva Goals does not seem to respect those settings. Is that being looked at?

At this moment we support the following languages:

      • English-US
      • English-GB
      • Español-ES
      • Español-MX
      • Français-CA
      • Français-FR
      • German-DE
      • Italian-IT
      • Português-BR

Once you change the setting on the Display Language on the https://myaccount.microsoft.com/settingsandprivacy/language, the user has to logout and login to see the new language settings.

If you pick a language other than this, it will revert to English and “Fallback language as of xx-XX is not supported” in the profile page.

We are working on adding more supported languages by early next year.

Thanks I've just tried again, but Goals still showing as En-Us despite https://myaccount.microsoft.com/settingsandprivacy/language showing English (United Kingdom). I'll confirm colleagues have same issue tomorrow and if so I'll log a support case.

Integrations - Once administrators have enabled an integration, it appears that when standard users create connections, they can share these with all users. Will an option be added to block connection sharing?

Yes, we have heard from customers that they would like more control over this and it is an area we are actively considering. To start with, many of our upcoming integrations to M365 will not allow connection sharing.

OKR Approval Workflow uses Managers. How are managers maintained? I can't see option to maintain this in Admin - Users. Is this inherited from AzureAD? Can manager structure be imported any other way?

Viva Goals currently relies only on Manager information from AzureAD. Organization administrators cannot edit or modify this.

Team Creation - Who can create teams? One of the options is Custom which allows named individuals to be assigned the role of creating Teams. However this does not support use of AzureAD groups. Will Microsoft consider allowing use of AzureAD groups to define Team Creators? (Same also for OKR Export - who can export OKRs from this organization)

The capability to assign team creation and OKR export responsibility to groups is part of our active backlog.

It is possible to use an AzureAD group to add users to an organization. However it remains possible for Organization Administrators to add users individually. It would be good if we could block administrators from adding users manually if using an AzureAD group so that user administration can be managed using AzureAD groups only. Will you consider that?

Currently, organization administrators can add users to an org with the help of AzureAD group. At this point, we do not have plans to remove the option of adding users individually, because of following reasons: 1. provide flexibility to administrators to add users individually also; 2. encourage virality and adoption - in Viva Goals, basis the policy settings, even roles other than org administrators can add users, for instance Team admins can add individual users to their orgs and then to their teams. However, we will continue to explore the need for removing individual user addition and include in our future roadmap based on insights and feedback.

We'd certainly prefer to control access based on AzureAD groups and to prevent access being granted in other ad-hoc methods within the app.

Organization administrators perform both technical configuration, such as configuration the organization settings and enabling connectors, and also business administration such as creating Teams. Are there any plans to separate out some of these roles?

We plan to have a separate IT administrator role for Viva Goals by end of Mar 2023. Going forward, people assigned to IT admin role will be expected to take care of connectors and technical configurations. Post this, people assigned to Organization administrator role would typically be business administrators or process champions.

Organization administrators are assigned individually within the Viva Goals application and any administrator can upgrade a user to Organization Administrator. Are there any plans to allow the Organization administrator role to be allocated using an AzureAD group and to block manual assignment of administrators?

I'm looking forward to this event. I've started looking at Viva Goals and have several questions. So as suggested I'll post them below as separate comments and I hope to join the event on Tuesday to see the answers and to discuss further.
