Have you looked at the PnP Modern Search Refiners? https://microsoft-search.github.io/pnp-modern-search/
We did, but were not impressed or looking to have to implement and support something custom. It also doesn't cover all of the search experiences, so it was kind of a non-starter. These basic things need to native in the OOTB product.
