I understand the need to protect corporate assets and resources, but this looks an awful lot like Microsoft is now marketing the great firewall of China as a "new" Entra feature. As this scales up and out, I can see this being weaponized to control the internet access of specific groups of people deemed a "threat" simply because of differing views, politics, beliefs, etc. This is quite possibly the most frightening piece of "innovation" to come from Microsoft to date.

Surely, this only applies to someone using their work identity for such purposes, in which case, this may be seen as a positive to businesses to reduce the risks associated with their identities being used for purposes not sanctioned or supported by the business. Furthermore, if a politically-motivated actor within a business attempts to exfiltrate potentially-sensitive data that furthers his/her cause, it is acceptable for businesses to wish to limit their ability to exfiltrate such data.

This will be a Windows Enterprise feature, (just like Cloud Join or WHFB), if a user is using a commercial SKU and does not randomly join it to a corporate domain, there's no way these features will be activated. - SamuelRoachJul 20, 2023Iron Contributor
It may be a feature built into Windows 11 that can be managed via Intune (or other MDM) or Group Policy, in which case it would likely only apply for people using either a work identity or a work device... I'm assuming ๐
