Ask Microsoft Anything: Azure AD is being renamed
Event details
On July 11, Microsoft announced that Azure AD is being renamed to Microsoft Entra ID. No action is needed, but here's a chance to ask the marketing and product teams about the rename, details on what's NOT changing, guidance for updating the name in your content, plus any concerns or questions.
Join us for implementation details and timing information, and the chance to ask Microsoft program managers your questions.
This session is part of the Microsoft Entra Tech Accelerator. RSVP for event reminders, add it to your calendar, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |

- RyanSteele-CoVIron ContributorI know there have been some negative reactions in the community about this change, but I think it makes sense. In my view, Azure Active Directory is really neither Azure nor Active Directory, so it makes sense for it to have its own brand. I would be interested to hear from the team about what their main drivers were for making this change, and why they settled on Entra ID rather than, say, Entra Directory.

Thanks for participating in today's AMA: Azure AD is being renamed! For reference, the panel covered this topic at around 04:00.
- Pascal650Occasional ReaderWill Entra External ID have support for SAML? Will entra external ID support sign-in only, so that users can not sign up themself but need to be provisioned for local and federated users? Are there plans to have support for governance capabilities for entra external id with workflows? Will Governance workflows be expanded in scope, that it can support more than 50 workflows or does the support go more towards Entitlement Managemnt?
- Stuart640Copper ContributorI would like to ask MS for more information about implementing Entra Permission Management. Can I onboard any subscription in Azure and collect data? or is this limited to the tenant / subscription as part of tenant. I can onboard any GCP or AWS account using the required documentation.

Thanks for your question, Stuart. You can onboard any subscription, GCP, or AWS account - Entra Permissions Management is not tied to any given Azure tenant or subscription.- Stuart640Copper ContributorHi Alexander, can you send or direct me to the right documentation that shows how to onboard subscriptions e.g. how do you setup the rights and permission on the cloud entitlements enterprise application for a subscription that is outside the Entra application install tenant.
