On July 11, Microsoft announced that Azure AD is being renamed to Microsoft Entra ID. No action is needed, but here's a chance to ask the marketing and product teams about the rename, details on what's NOT changing, guidance for updating the name in your content, plus any concerns or questions.

    would there be any Azure AD to Microsoft Entra will there be fast track training, playbooks and/or utilities to identify, verify updates ?

    Could you give recommendations on how to setup Tenants / directories in Entra. We have 2 independent customer facing web applications we would like to transition to Entra External ID (they're both Vue SPA + web APIs) with the detail that our Web APIs chain-call other Azure AD (todo) protected internal APIs (on behalf of flow + cross tenant situation - meaning the internal API would need to authenticate Azure AD workforce users and access token external clients with a specific role)?

    Should we expect more granular RBAC controls with Entra administration? Will these continue to be able to be managed through Azure PIM?

      We continue to invest in more granular RBAC on an ongoing basis. Privileged Identity Management (PIM) is part of Entra ID and Entra Governance and will continue to be available for managing just-in-time elevation to gain administrative privileges necessary to perform a specific function.

      Please do check out Entra ID automated application provisioning, Azure logic apps and Power Platform (Power Automate in particular) integration for workload automation for your specific identity workflow scenarios. The many pre-built components in Logic Apps lets you connect to hundreds of external services for your workflow. Power Automate gives you a low-code/no-code platform for quick workflow modeling.

        Microsoft Entra ID P2 (currently Azure AD P2) has some identity governance features, including basic access reviews, entitlement management, and privileged identity management. Microsoft Entra ID Governance contains the identity governance features in Microsoft Entra ID P2 (currently Azure AD P2), as well as no-code/low-code identity lifecycle automation; ML-assisted access reviews; a new actionable dashboard with recommended actions; and entitlement management with Microsoft Entra Verified ID, to confirm users’ digital identities before automatically granting access to specific access packages of resources. Thus, Microsoft Entra ID Governance is a superset of the Microsoft Entra ID P2 (currently Azure AD P2) identity governance features.
