System Image Restore

I have a Win 10 machine, that I need to do a System Image Restore. The image was stored on an external drive mapped "J", a repair CD was created.

I booted to the CD, had option to restore from an image. It wanted to  restore to drive E which when completed should be another external drive. AND it could not find the external drive J.

How can this be fixed and prevented in the future?
