Store Migration fails at 30% removing from domain

Are you by chance migrating from 2008/2008R2 with SMS?
If so I had the same issue and had an open case with MS Support for nearly 2 months with no real resolution. I for frustrated with the lack of progress and endless sending event logs so cloned then I took a snapshot of the fileservers, and did an in place upgrade to 2012R2. Applied all of the updates available, then the cutover succeeded without incident, other than some DNS wonkiness for the ones in remote offices I needed to manually massage to speed up the process.
