Storage Migration Service fails at 18% from server 2016 to server 2022
Hi, if your Storage Migration Service fails exactly at 18% from Server 2016 to 2022, it's usually a permission or copy-phase issue. Since validation passes and the transfer starts, basic connectivity and credentials are fine, but something goes wrong during actual file copy or ACL application. First, double-check that the target credentials have full admin rights and permission to write and set NTFS/share ACLs. Also, disable any antivirus or security software that might block the transfer. Make sure SMB v2/v3 are enabled and firewalls aren’t interfering. Check the health of the source disk (run chkdsk) and verify VSS isn't failing. Try running the migration with a smaller dataset to rule out path/filename issues. Lastly, review the Storage Migration Service Admin and Proxy logs around the 18% mark, any error codes there will point you to the exact cause. If you can share a few key log lines
