Offline folder sync and SMS

I have a W2012R2 server hosting user home drives. Users have offline folder synchronisation configured to their home drives for their local documents directory. This essentially syncs the local folder to the home drive when network latency is not too high.  

Previous attempts to migrate user home drives to another server (even retaining the host name and IP address) have orphaned the local 'CSC' caches and the data held in them. A new empty cache is created and data is inaccessible in the old cache.

Does anyone know if Storage Migration Service, when using the cutover Identity of the server option will allow these caches to remain 'un-orphaned"?
