Manage As Workgroup Servers

Looking to leverage many of the features of WAC but I am having challenges managing servers in our DMZ that are on in a workgroup (non-domain). I typically RDP to the server as .\username but I have tried that and username@servername with no luck. Documentation isn't clear so far on this. 

Ideas?
