WS2025 - LocalKDC Service Stopped

I have found that this service was disabled before the December update, for some reason it has gone to automatic and cannot be started, maybe this behavior is normal if you are not using this feature. After the January security patch the service still does not start, I think microsoft should report this problem.

This problem occurs in a clean installation without any role installed or configured.

If you try to start the service it shows the following error

I have exactly the same problem with localkdc not starting on all 2025 servers in the domain. Both newly installed and migrated servers. I haven't found a solution yet. Has anyone opened a ticket with MS and received a solution?

Der Fehler tritt seit KB5048667 auf.

I installed 24H2 today. The issue has been resolved on all servers.

We are experiencing the exact same issue with a fresh install of Server 2025 Standard. The service fails to start, and we cannot manually start it.

    Hello mk3

This error might be related to a system or configuration setting, especially since it's happening on a clean install. One thing to check is if any group policies or system settings are preventing the service from starting.

If no issues with that, you could also try resetting the Kerberos settings using PowerShell or by reviewing the event logs for more specific errors.

In case you need them you can use this commands:

To clear the Kerberos ticket cache:

    klist purge

For other Kerberos-related issues, you might also need to restart the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) service:

    Restart-Service -Name KDC

    Hope it helps!

There is no configuration or policy applied, I have indicated this is a clean install, windows installation and updates only. I know I am not the only one with this problem, I invite you to perform a test in your labs, install windows server 2025 and update with windows update ... the result will be what I said in this post.

LocalKDC and KDC are different services

The KDC service would be present if this server was a domain controller.
