Windows Server 2022 and Exchange Server 2019
Hi Lemuel430,
It is good that you have decided to do the Upgrade.
I will try to divide your questions / issues:
- Changing the Login Account for AD:
You can definitely change the login account for Active Directory without messing up the email address format. So, let's say you want a new AD login account like "juan.delacruz.domain.com.ph," but you still want to keep the email address as "email address removed for privacy reasons." Then you can create the new AD user account with the desired login name and then update the email address to match the old one. That way, your email address will remain unchanged while using the new AD login credentials.
Create a New AD User Account: To start, log in to your Windows Server environment and open the Active Directory Users and Computers console. Right-click on the domain name and select "New" > "User" to create a new user account.
Enter User Details: In the New User dialog box, enter the required user details for the new AD account, such as the first name, last name, and user logon name.
Configure the Email Address: Once the new user account is created, right-click on the user account and select "Properties." In the Properties window, go to the "Email Addresses" tab. Here, you'll see the existing email address associated with the account.
Add the Previous Email Address: To retain the previous email address format, click "Add" to add a new email address. Enter the desired email address, which should match the previous one exactly (e.g., "email address removed for privacy reasons"). Make sure to set this email address as the primary SMTP address.
How do I change a user's initial domain proxy address - Microsoft Q&AUpdate the User Logon Name: If you want to change the user logon name while keeping the email address format, you can do so by going back to the "Account" tab in the user's Properties window. Under "User logon name," change it to match the new login account.
2. Upgrading AD and Exchange:
How to migrate Active Directory from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2022 (microsoft.com)
When you're setting up your new environment on Windows Server 2022 and Exchange 2019, you have the freedom to upgrade AD and Exchange separately.
First, you can get the new Windows Server 2022 environment up and running. Once that's done, you can start migrating your AD domain and data from the old Server 2008 R2 to the new Server 2022.

Once your AD migration successful, you can move on to setting up Exchange Server 2019. Then, you can migrate all the mailboxes and other data from your old Exchange 2013 to the new Exchange 2019. By doing this step-by-step migration, you can avoid any major hiccups and ensure everything goes smoothly.
During the migration process, make sure you sync and map the email addresses correctly to the right user accounts in the new environment. That way, you'll avoid any email disruptions and keep those messages flowing seamlessly.
