Windows Server 2016 Security and Editions

Are any Windows Server 2016 security features dependent on using the Datacenter edition? Alternatively, are there any specific licensing requirements to use security features?

  • The short answer is, yes, there are certain features that require Datacenter edition to deploy in production with the appropriate scale and HA, shielded VMs being one such example. Software-defined networking (SDN) and micro-segmentation would be another, See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/windows-server-pricing

Oh, OK. I'm surprised that shielded virtual machines isn't part of the Standard edition, but thanks for that link.
