Windows 2012 R2 standard to Windows 2022 essentials

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question, but can I migrate a Windows 2012 R2 Standard DC to a Windows 2022 Essentials server?

One of my clients purchased a brand new Dell server with Windows 2022 Essentials server but his existing DC is a Windows 2012 R2 Standard. There is only 1 DC in his windows domain. 

Is it possible?

    The two prerequisites to introducing the first 2019 or 2022 domain controller are that domain functional level needs to be 2008 or higher and older sysvol FRS replication needs to have been migrated to DFSR

    Should be able to join the existing domain, dcpromo it, and move the roles over. Of course, make sure existing domain health is 100% before beginning any operations.
