Computers wont update automatically with WSUS

Hi

I have windows 10 computers that wont download updates automatically.

It use to work fine till month ago.

The GPO say to download and install all the updates automatically.

On the update windows (on the windows 10) it say:

we'll ask you to download updates except when updates are required to keep windows running smoothly

Any Idea how to force it to download and install?

    Hello shlomico,

Windows won't update automatically with WSUS has been a common issue for many users. In order to solve Windows 10 update issue, you can follow the below steps,

    Remove Third-party Security Software:

    • Right-click on the Start menu, then choose Control Panel.
    • Click Programs and Features, choose the third-party software needing to be uninstalled, then right-click it and select Uninstall to continue.
    • Restart your computer and check whether Windows 10 won't update issue is solved.

    Check Windows Update Utility Manually:

    • Press Windows Key key together and click Update Security.
    • Click on Fix issues, and the Windows Update utility will help to finish updating automatically.
    • Click on the Advanced options to know more information on the same.
    • It is recommended to choose Automatic.
    • Now, restart the PC to check whether the problem Windows won't updates is solved.

Keep all Services of Windows Update Running:

    • Press Windows Key + R. Then input services.msc in the box and click OK to continue.
    • In the pop-up window, choose Windows Update, right-click, and select Properties.
    • Set the Startup type "Automatic."  If the Service Status is stopped, click Start to start it, and then click Apply and OK to confirm it.
    • Locate and right-click on BITS, then choose Properties
    • Set Startup type as Automatic, and make sure the Service Status is Running. Then click OK to continue.
    • Locate and right-click Cryptographic Service and select Properties. Then set Startup type as Automatic.

If your users are local admins, they will always receive this prompt. The setting "Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications" - does exactly what it says. It does not present the prompt to non-admins. But, if the user ignores this prompt, the updates should be installed automatically per your other GPO settings.

Also, I recommend enabling "Reschedule automatic updates scheduled installations." It will allow the machine to complete a scheduled installation that did not take place earlier.

I hope the issues will be resolved using the above fixes.

Was there any change to your systems?
Are you able to enforce other policies?
    Have you check the clients?
Sometimes, the reporting service won't work correctly and even if the update has been applied it shows it is pending.
