Closing RDS VD sessions

I apologize for the very basic question.
I am testing RDS VDI with either pooled and personal VD.
When users finisch using their sessions, have they to simply close the session, logoff or shutdown the VD in order to preserve Personal VD and reset Pooled VD?
Is there any documentation?
