virtual machine boots up fine with Windows XP however my mouse cannot take control of the virtual machine.
You'll need to manually install the integration tools via vmguest.iso You can get this file from a 2012 R2 Hyper-V host. You'll need to mount vmguest.iso image on guest, then logon and run D:\setup.exe from within the mounted image to install integration services. The file (vmguest.iso) is found in \Windows\System32 on 2012 R2 that has the hyper-v role installed.
