ADCS Certificate template shows a number instead of the template name

I'm looking at the Certification Authority console and under Issued Certificates, one of my certificates shows up properly with "client authentication certificate" but the other RAS & IAS certificate shows up with just the number.

I'm not sure why it's showing just the number instead of the certificate name. Any ideas about what I've missed here?

    You'll see the OID (the number) when you can't read the information from Active Directory. This could be because:

    1. The template does not exist;
    2. You do not have permissions to read it.

    With respect to the first point, it may not exist because:

    1. Someone deleted the template;
    2. Replication errors or latency are either preventing replication or delaying it respectively.

    If replication is simply set to occur infrequently then the "problem" will resolve itself in time. But if there's issues then someone will need to step in and resolve them.

    But if someone deleted the template then seeing the OID show up on an issued certificate (such as you're seeing now) will continue and is expected.

    Here's a quick illustration of the OID as it appears in Active Directory from one of my templates. I've also underlined the Configuration partition where the data is stored in case you want to hunt for your "missing" template.

    Cheers,

    Lain

      Hi Lain,

      Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction. The template I was looking at seems to have been deleted from Active Directory which is why it was showing the OID number instead.

      I deleted the template from ADCS, created a new Certificate Template and the new one shows up with the correct name of the Certificate template now.
