Migrating Videos bigger than 15 GB - Redirection after migration

Hi,

The migration tool doesn't support migrating videos more than 15 GB and the tool throws an error.

The Microsoft workaround is to migrate these videos manually but then the redirection doesn't work.

Is there any way to migrate these videos and make the redirection to work?

  • Hi,

If someone has this issue, this is the workaround to migrate and make the redirection working for videos of more than 15 GB.

    1. Download the source video from the stream classic portal to your local computer.
    2. Trim the source video from the stream classic portal to reduce the size to less than 15GB.
    3. Launch the migration of the container from the Stream migration tool.
    4. Once the migration completes replace the video in the destination library (*with the same name) with the version you downloaded in the step 1.

  • There is not a way to setup redirection for videos this large. Do you have a lot of them? If not, can you not just coordinate with your video owner to understand how they share the video? If they share it on a SharePoint webpage on your intranet, then have them update the link or web part on that page right now - in fact have them do the migration so that they are storing the file in the right site and sharing it from there.

If they are going to upload it into a team in Microsoft Teams, they can share the link there or add a Videos tab to a channel (until the new Teams Stream app is available). If you need instructions on how to do this, I put them in my last blog post here at https://corebts.com/blog/5-new-updates-to-microsoft-teams-october-2023/.

If they are going to plan to share from OneDrive . . . I would encourage them to find another location for it - or they may have to re-share it.

    I hope these options help.
