What is the best practice to create documentation for our SQL Server

I know that we have to documents all our risk assessments and backup and recovery strategy but for Database Administrator to handover the task to other Database Admin, is there any best practice what to documents? Also I am aware of the 3rd party tool to help the documentation, but based on your experience what are the important things to document? Thank you

Thank you for reaching out to us. Based on my experience sharing the key processes you can document. You can create a wiki using SharePoint if your organization or any tools your organization uses as central repository for documenting key processes for your organization.

    1. Documenting any audit and compliance related steps that you will be doing in your organization such as enabling logs, savings logs and retention etc.
    2. Documenting any automation related tasks such as batch jobs, backups etc.
    3. Document key architecture diagrams for your databases such as cluster information, dns names, IPs etc.
    4. Documenting regular maintenance tasks / operations tasks such as restarting services related to databases.
    5. Documenting the change process in your organization when it comes to upgrading database and database servers.
