Sounds to me like you have an instance of 2017 alongside the previous instance of 2016 ? Were you trying to do an upgrade of 2016 => 2017 ? It looks like you hit the wrong option. If you were after an in place upgrade I'd be tempted to uninstall 2017 and re-install it but make sure you choose the Upgrade option from the setup dialogues.
