Data Migration Assistant Copy or Move

I would like to use the Data Migration Assistant to migrate db's and logins between 2 on-premise SQL servers. Everything looks pretty straightforward but I am hung up on a question that is so "dumb" that I can't seem to find an answer to. Does this tool copy the databases from one server to the next (backup/restore) and once complete, everything on the source server remains or does it actually move the databases? Each of my 4 brain cells is telling me that the source data will remain.
