Cannot install SQL server express

I have been trying to install sql server on my PC. It has kept failing and after many attempts i cannot work around this error:

 

I tried to do a custom installation but i could not successfully find the server instance via SSMS. after trying to uninstall any stubborn components and reinstall, i keep running into the error above.

    simk77 , the screenshot is useless, but there is a link to the installation log files; review them for more detailed informations.

      olafhelper I have never reviewed installation log files before. is there anything i should specifically look for in the folder??
