A bizarre situation - SQL query finds no records when record is present.

I meant sql server may be reusing stale internal cursor state from earlier execution. Sql server maintains internal cursor state and temporary working structures. In rare cases, especially with views and cached plans involved, the internal state can become out of sync temporarily.
