Skype For Business SE - persistent Chat
Hello,
maybe someone of you run into the same error and is able to help me on this topic:
we are using SkypeForBusiness only for internal communication
last week we have upgraded SkypeForBusinness 2019 to SE: "SkypeServerUpdateInstaller.exe" run without errors, installed the necessary updates and we were able to upgrade to SE on topology builder and publish the new version.
on the next step we tried to activate persistent chat.
so same procedure for the upgrade: start the update file "PersistentChatUpateInstaller.exe", nothing else to upgrade
the first steps (install new sql instance, configure topology builder, publish the new topology were easy, no issues occured.
but when we start the Deployment Wizard to install the necessary components we received the error:
"File not found trying to install installing c:\programdata\skype for business server\deployment\cache\7.0.2046.0\setup\mgcserver.msi (feature_chat_server)"
my question:
how can we install the necessary roles/components to activate persistent chat.
the file MgcServer.msi couldn't be found on the server, i can't find it on the SkypeForBusinnes 2019 ISO, too.
one version i found, was located on the ISO for SkypeForBusiness 2015 ISO, but this version can't be installed.
Thanks in advance,
best regards,
Markus

Okay! Fixed this one.
To keep it short: Microsoft recently released the SE ISO, before you worry, you do not need it in the way you first think... you can keep all your servers, no reinstallation!
I was able to resolve it by logging on to the server (in my case, a Front-End Standard Server), mounting the ISO via SCVMM, and opening it in File Explorer. From there, I copied mgcserver.msi to the following path:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Skype for Business Server\Deployment\<Version>\setup\
After that, I re-ran the Deployment Wizard, which completed successfully.
At the moment, I am updating the component using PersistentChatUpdateInstaller. Once that is finished, I will run Start-CSWindowsService and verify whether Group Chats can be configured successfully again.
One important note: after publishing your topology, do not turn off the services immediately. The topology needs time to properly register the new server before it can be used. Otherwise, a rollback of the changes may be required.
Have a nice day and greetings from germany "habibi!",

Were you able to find a resolution for this?
I find myself in the same spot. Fully patched, tried pulling the mgcserver.msi from a patched 2015 server in the environment to no avail. Running the PersistentChatUpdateInstaller.exe just gives me a blank window that doesn't list any products or updates the way the SkypeServerUpdateInstaller.exe will. Completely out of ideas at this point.

Hello Spisarau,
thanks for answering.
Yes, that was the statement so far. But there has been a change.
According to an information from Microsoft, persistent chat should work with the SE version.https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/plan-your-deployment/persistent-chat-server/persistent-chat-server

This is not correct, PC is supported in 2019 and SE also.
