EDR Exclusions - file extensions with square brackets
- Feb 25, 2025
Bspies1Unfortunately, there isn’t currently a direct way to add file extensions containing square brackets [] in Defender EDR Exclusions, and it looks like a product limitation or bug in the portal.
The most reliable workaround is to do a path or process exclusion rather than an extension-only exclusion. If that’s not workable, you should open a Microsoft Support case or use the Microsoft 365 Defender “Send feedback” or “Help + support” channels to request that they fix the validation rules to allow bracketed extensions.
