Microsoft 365 A3 for faculty

Can someone explain me how Microsoft sees the usage of Microsoft 365 for Faculty in combination with User Benifits for Microsoft 365 A3 for Students where the instutude wants to protect the systems with Microsoft Defender for Endpoints P1 from the faculty licenses but where te student can use those systems also? I presume the device count of 5 can be used for the protected devices then?

    Hi LoginJME73,

Microsoft 365 A3 for faculty and Microsoft 365 A3 for students are two different subscription plans offered by Microsoft.

The Microsoft 365 A3 for faculty includes features like Security Management, Email, Calendaring, File Sharing, and Collaboration Tools.

On the other hand, the Microsoft 365 A3 for students provides functionalities like Office Desktop Apps, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Collaboration Tools, Email, and Calendaring.
It also includes Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business Online, and more.

Regarding the usage of Microsoft Defender for Endpoints P1, it offers attack surface reduction, next-generation protection, APIs and integration, and a unified security experience for client endpoints including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.

Regarding your specific question about protecting systems with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint P1 for faculty licenses while allowing students to use those systems:

    - The device count limit for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint P1 is typically tied to the number of licensed users. If a faculty member holds a license that encompasses Defender for Endpoint P1, the protected devices are usually those utilized by that specific faculty member.

    - In instances where faculty-owned devices are shared with students, and there is a desire to extend protection to those devices, it is important to ensure that the faculty licenses account for the requisite number of devices to cover both faculty and student users.
