Is MDE off-boarding required when disposing of a device?

I'd like to know the same thing. Often times a machine dies or is unjoined from Azure AD. If MDE is not offboarded, those machines till seem to check in to the intune portal
Is there anything that can be done on the back end to offboard it from the MDE device portal? I realize you can exclude devices but it's not ideal.
