Endpoint licensing

Hi!

We have A3 licenses in our university. We are planning to deploy endpoint for defender. In the first deployment we deploying with local script, only 20 computers. We do not using Intune nor sccm connection yet so the authority is the MDE. We have computer rooms, where we are using only local users, for exams, public access for students etc. How will the endpoint activation work here?

I am searching the official documentation yet not finding the right information. I have some old memory if some user with E3 license logs in to a computer it can stay activated for 30 days. What about situation described above?

We do not have stand alone defender for endpoint plan 1 license, "only" Microsoft 365 A3 which includes endpoint plan 1.

Please advice.

    Defender for endpoint have only per user licensing. In theory at install the devices only checking the full license count (x5), no matter what user currently logged in.
