[New!] Drag and drop conversations into groups
CE_redmond Looks like you are on the monthly channel (which is great news). When we ship the feature early next year, if you stay updated with your current builds, you will see the new Drag and Drop functionality in Outlook Desktop in Q1 2020.. Hope this helps.
Sri Ramya Mallipudi We have been planning a rollout of Teams with groups + sharepoint to our organisation for 18 months and we were relying on this feature being available in Outlook Desktop Client. We are now rolling out to our Users and they are asking every day where this promised feature is! Can we get an update on progress please? Is January still the target?

Joe McGiven Corban Why it makes sense ? What if you made a mistake and wanted to drag it to another group or want to reorganize ?

Scott_Whitmore - No, it appears you can't drag out of the Group mailbox back into your inbox.. I just tested, and wasn't possible. Good idea to test that... but makes sense it's "one way traffic".

Thanks for checking Joe McGiven Corban
Is it possible to drag them back out of a Group mailbox? I wonder what the easiest way to fix a situation where a user drags an email to the wrong mailbox.
Good news about folders and conversations. Thanks!

Scott_Whitmore - ahh, good points... so I tested these too, all work sweet

One thing... emails in folders could be older, and so if you drag one in from a folder to the Group mailbox... it may not be easy to see. That's because, based on the email time stamp it is now waaaaaaay down the line in the flat structure of the Group Mailbox. It is there... just much further down the email list now. One to be weary of though, as I thought "where did that email go?"
Finally, I tested dragging and dropping between Group mailboxes. That didn't work, and not surprised either - but was worth confirming.

Joe McGiven Corban Good news! Hopefully we see it out soon.
Do you know if it works with folders and/or conversations?

Hi all - I asked one of our O365 Tenant Admins to download it for me and install it.
Completely uninstalled my O365 monthly version, then installed v. 2002 (Build 12513.20010) and it works perfectly! So, it is definitely there and working.
My suggestion is that we all now ask Ethan Li and others at MS to bundle this with the mid-year Semi Annual release, so all staff on any channel release can use this feature.
That said, I can only assume it will be available to all mid year year, as this was bundled in 2002, and last year the SA releases were 1902 and 1908, so I am guessing (...hoping) 2002 will be this years July SA release.
- Frank-Ove KristiansenJan 24, 2020Brass ContributorI don't think so.
All Office 365 updates now goes through the Update Center. See this article for more information regarding the different update channels, and how you can change between them (if possible):

- Frank-Ove KristiansenJan 24, 2020Brass ContributorNo, this one (the December 13 version) is also part of the Insider Channel.

Tomas Paulas Thanks. But according to Outlook 2016 I have the latest update . The one you are refering to is an insider version if I'm correct? Not yet available to a wider audience?
- Frank-Ove KristiansenJan 24, 2020Brass Contributor
I see that this feature was actually released in the https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/release-notes-office-insider#version-2001-december-13 version.
I haven't tested it myself yet, since we're on Monthly Channel.

Yes, Outlook 2016 C2R. You need to update your office then. See here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/release-notes-office-insider#version-2001-january-03

- Joe McGiven CorbanJan 13, 2020Brass ContributorHi Sri... behold... it's January 2020! I assume Drag and Drop is still all go for roll out to Insiders Fast channel this month? Can you please advise the date this will be available? Thanks.

Sri Ramya Mallipudi You're making sure that the feature obeys the moderation levels of the group? Dragging and dropping from and to the group on the web doesn't regard access controls - delivery management in ECP.
For example, a user who does not have the access permissions to POST MESSAGES INTO THE GROUP can drag and drop a message into the group.
Another example is a limited-rights user (not a group owner) without permission to POST MESSAGES INTO THE GROUP can drag the message OUT of the group, and on iOS, delete messages from a group that they aren't the original author of, or the group owner for (this seems to be falling on deaf ears).
It's rendered the use of GROUPS in our organization without use for compliance and governance reasons. Just wanted to avoid this ditch for other organizations. We've moved on beyond group messaging in Outlook.
Also, look for the attachment to show the O365 National Product Lead acknowledge the complete and utter disaster that is iOS Outlook being able to delete messages posted by other people in delivery-managed groups to which they have no ownership, no permissions to post, they are just simply members.
