Limitation of O365 group email address
Any idea why we can create distribution lists with a "." in the email address (name.dep@contoso.com) but are unable to do so for O365 groups? Will this be be possible in the future? Thanks!

ok, apparently it's in the works:
"We are in the process of rolling out support for a dot in the email alias. We will make an announcement regarding this soon. We are also looking into the ability to change the alias after creation."

The reason is that Groups uses the alias (identifier) as the basis for the email address assigned to the group. You can give a group whatever email address you want afterwards.
Set-UnifiedGroup -Id Group -PrimarySmtpAddress My.Group.Is.Great@Mydomain.com
