Migration Email to 365

Hello,

I would like to transfer my email account from our host Siteground to Microsoft's business account. This is because the conventional hoster only has limited email storage and is almost full. The provider Siteground supports IMAP. I have several questions:

  1. How do I proceed now? Do I have to transfer the domain first and then can I also transfer the email account in the second step?
  2. Once the transfer has been completed, can I create additional email addresses via Siteground or do I now have to create all emails via 365 (which will probably incur costs)?

Thank you!

    Hello,

Since SiteGround supports IMAP, you can migrate your existing emails to Microsoft 365 without transferring your domain registration. A common approach is to first set up Microsoft 365, verify the domain, create the required mailboxes, and migrate the existing email data.

I’ve used EdbMails IMAP Migration Tool for IMAP-to-Microsoft 365 migrations. It supports bulk mailbox migration, automatic mailbox mapping, folder structure preservation, incremental migration, and filtering.

After verifying the migrated data, you can update the domain’s MX records to Microsoft 365. You can continue using SiteGround for your website and domain registration if required.

For additional addresses, you can create mailboxes, aliases, or shared mailboxes in Microsoft 365 depending on your requirements and licensing.

EdbMails also provides a free trial, so you can test the migration before moving all your mailboxes.

Hello, I'm interested in the mailbox migration process from SiteGround to M365, have you got any answers or found any documentation?

    Thanks

I just need to add something regarding limitations of migration. I just wanted to know if the inbuilt M365 tools allow migration of drafted email from Google Workspace users.
